The context
A need for forest ecosystem adaptation & resilience
What we are doing
IN-SYLVA EUROPE is A forest-focused, pan-European distributed research infrastructure supporting excellence-driven research on forest ecosystem adaptation & resilience towards sustainable forest management and maintenance of the multiple forest ecosystem services in the context of global changes
As user, with the IN-SYLVA EUROPE infrastructure, you will be able to :
- Browse forest-related experimentation data in Europe and more
- Connect with leading forest researchers in Europe
- Develop excellence forest science with diverse research communities across pan-European ecological gradients
- Engage with stakeholders for co-constructed solutions towards sustainable, adaptive forest ecosystems management
- Find top-level training courses and keep up to date with the latest science-based tools to manage forest ecosystems
- Take advantage of participatory citizen science to learn more about sustainable forest ecosystem service
How do we stand out from other RIs?
Among existing research infrastructures and European networks, none can provide large-scale sites dedicated to forest adaptation experiments. That is why we develop IN-SYLVA EUROPE!
A forest-oriented research infrastructure brings many advantages:
Developing a common scientific & technical strategy
β Facilitating submissions of R&D and academic/professional training projects
Supporting professional skills
β Continuous resourcing to meet user needs at European scale Β
Matching Service offer and user demands
β Optimal Service offer to meet user needs at European scale
Bridging social gaps in forestry
β Long-term commitment to RI services
Collectively seeking funding
β Access to funding sources that cannot be approached by individual entitiesΒ
Consolidating distributed information systems
β Secured data at European scaleΒ
Coordinating with ESFRI RI and other international initiatives
β Improved modelling tools + Science-based policy making
Supporting technological developments
β Excellence science-based innovation
The timeline & resources for IN-SYLVA Europe development
Currently, the infrastructure is in its Concept & Design Development βCDβ phase, with the objective to join the ESFRI roadmap 2026.
- After passing ESFRI validation, there will be a 10-year preparation and implementation (PR) phase.
- Then, IN-SYLVA EUROPE will operate for 20 more years, helping forestry specialists across Europe centralize their data and share large-scale experiments!
